Loved this story. I have an additional perspective for you. As a photographer. When making an image of food related stuff, the Oreo is really only one sided and thus boring. However [at the time this was revealed to me] Sunshine Hydrox offered you much more interesting compositions for making art. In this way: you could place the Sunshine or the Hydorx side of the cookie either both up Sunshine Sunshine or Hydrox Hydrox OR you could go Sunshine up in part of the image and Hydrox in the other part of the image. giving you more diversity in your creative project. So you have a Sunshine-Hydrox option for the image or just use the plain ole boring Oreo in your image.

when i was a kid in the 90s i've ate imported cookie sandwiches once and never really realized it was Hydrox brand.
then when Mondelez started officially importing Oreos to my country a few years later i always had that thought in my mind "i remember these used to taste better when i was a little kid".
so it is funny that i realized just a couple of years ago that the cookie sandwich brand i ate that time as a little kid were actually Hydrox cookies.
i wish Hydrox was still around, or more correctly - i wish Hydrox were sold more broadly and even globally.
it is really difficult to get hold of them, especially because Mondelez are actively trying to push them away from literally every retailer.
To keep the Oreo theories going, here's something to consider: could Oreos being "Milk's favorite cookie" have something to do with the fact that you don't need milk to make Oreos? This came to me after I saw the ingredients used to make them and I thought, 'That's unusual for a cookie,' as you would usually expect for every cookie you eat to be made with milk. Or, at least, I did anyways.
Also on a certain milk brand which i forgot it was like a few years ago on the label that something talking about chocolate chips being what it’s suppose to go with.
So seems like milk doesn’t think the same about oreo.
I’ve literally walked past these cookies in a Kroger and thought “Why does Oreo have so many ripoffs?” I now know who the imposter is

This i never knew! I always thought hydrox was a rip off Oreos and I always wondered why my dad preferred hydrox over Oreos.
Personally, I throw my whole cookie into a glass of milk, wait approximately 8 seconds, fish it out with a spoon, eat it whole, and repeat the process in a trance like state until I eventually come to realizing I need a new package of oreos.

Oreo won’t be able to sue as hydrox would be able to counter sue saying Oreo copied them first possibly causing Oreos to stop being produced under court order and Oreos company won’t risk losing their biggest seller. Win win for hydrox. And personally, I like the taste of hydrox more, Oreo is just way too sweet

I've always loved Oreos but thought they were a bit too sweet, and from what I've read, Hydrox is less sweet and more chocolate-y... Sounds like the perfect snack. I really wish Hydrox could make a huge come-back internationally so that I could try it, and also because it feels like it morally deserves it lol
I’m allergic to Dairy and once ate an Oreo in front of my friends. They were horrified and asked where my epipen was. I had to laugh and tell them Oreos don’t contain dairy, and showed them the package ingredients list to prove it. They started freaking out wondering if there’s no dairy then what on earth is the cream in the middle 😂

The reason Oreo asks the question: "How do you eat your Oreo?" "Do you twist it, dunk it, etc?" is to make people subconsciously visualize eating Oreos. Advertising tactic. Makes people more likely to buy if they see themselves with the product.
They also include a beverage to pair with it.
Can’t you just accept that it’s a way better cookie, all the advertising in the world doesn’t matter if the product isn’t any good. People talk.

I work at a grocery store and I actually can confirm that the Hydrox cookies are usually on the top shelf while the Oreos get a whole section of shelves for all their flavors of cookies.
I mean its understandble right like its popular so it has to have a whole section for itself

I think my grandmother actually preferred Hydrox cookies over Oreos. I have this vague memory of her putting them into a vintage cookie jar and getting mad when I called them oreos. (Because I didn't know Hydrox existed at the time.)

Growing up in Seattle we almost always had Hydrox instead of Oreos in my house but I live in New Orleans now and I admit I've never seen them here I'm thinking it's a regional thing with Hydrox

working in a grocery store, I can say that the vendors 100% do that with their products. over fill, stock where they aren't supposed to, etc. whenever they mess up my shelf I straight up throw their product into another vendors area and let them deal with it

(Joke aside, as someone who works in the retail industry I can say that employees would not be happy with any of this and you might be talked to if you're caught one too many times...but I don't think it's illegal. Just very annoying since we'd be the ones to redo the shelves again and again and again. If enough people do it and it gains media attention though, then who knows? Laws are always changing.)
